Above home was built in the early 1900s. It has been home to two mayors, a chief of police, and an Illinois State House Representative. The home is two and a half stories, and approximately 2500 square feet. It has double brick walls – soft brick makes up the inner wall, while the outer ones are known as “clinker” or Dutch bricks.
The current residents are the Representative Kevin Schmidt family. While the home has been updated, Schmidt’s kept the original woodwork, steam radiators, stained glass window, front door, and even the iron bars on one of the basement windows. You can read more history on this interesting home on the back of the 2026 calendar. MILLSTADT is located in the southwest part of St. Clair County. The Village was laid out in 1837 and was incorporated in 1878. The original residents were settlers from Germany. Much of the charm and character of the village is traceable to this heritage including many of the well-preserved 19th century brick buildings which they built. If you take a walking tour of the Village, you will still see many of the original buildings. Many of the Millstadt residents are direct descendants of the original early settlers of the Village of Millstadt and can share many history stories.
